Bandits invade, rob popular Palm Castle bar at Vreed-en-Hoop

– mere hours after robbing nearby Supermarket 

 Reports are that around 22:15hrs yesterday the two perpetrators entered the premises. One of them was armed with a handgun and began to issue threats as he brandished his weapon.

 INews understands that the staff and customers who were in the bar at the time of the robbery were ordered to lie face down on the floor while the bandits demanded they hand over their cash and valuables.

 The lone gunman is said to have placed his firearm against the head of a waitress as he emptied the drawer behind the counter which contained the day’s sales.

 Meanwhile, his accomplice relieved the other customers of their cash along with cellular phones. Within moments of robbing everyone inside of the building the two culprits rushed out into a waiting car heading in the direction of the Vreed-en-Hoop junction.

 It is unclear as to whether they remained on the WCD or travelled across the Demerara Harbour Bridge to escape capture.

 Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Leslie James, who is currently in command of ‘D’ Division, confirmed that his ranks are on the prowl for two male perpetrators.

 “I am told one of them was armed with a shotgun. The two perpetrators are said to have stolen about $100,000 from a customer along with his cellular phone and an undisclosed amount of cash was taken from the proprietor of the business. The two (bandits) got away in a car that was allegedly parked and waiting for them,” he told INews when contacted.

 According to ACP James, while no arrests have been made up, so far, his ranks are seeking cooperation from persons in the area so as to view footage from their security cameras with hopes of nabbing the criminals in a timely manner.

 Meanwhile, investigations are also continuing into  the brazen robbery executed earlier yesterday  at the Chinese Supermarket located just two buildings away from the Palm Castle bar on Vreed-en-Hoop, which was robbed last night.
