A bandit used a ‘selfie stick’ (a monopod used to take selfie photographs by positioning a smartphone or camera beyond the normal range of the arm), to carry out a robbery.
That robbery took place on Republic Road, New Amsterdam. According to a source close to the police, a man was walking along Republic Road when someone came up from behind and put something circular, hard and cold to his neck before ordering him to remain silent and not move. The man was relieved of two gold chains.
The perpetrator then fled the scene on foot after dropping the selfie stick. The victim, bemused, then picked up the stick which at the time of the robbery he thought was a gun. The matter was reported to the police and the selfie stick handed to police.
Meanwhile, Police in New Amsterdam are also investigation the breakages to two homes in the area on Saturday evening. Both of them reportedly occurred at Martin Luther Housing Scheme. Several household articles were stolen during these robberies.
