One injured bandit is now under police guard at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation following a botched robbery on a security guard on the Bachelors’ Adventure Public Road, East Coast Demerara.
Based on information received, the incident occurred around 23:30hrs on Thursday evening as the 39-year-old security guard of Bachelors Adventure, ECD was heading home on foot.
According to the Police, two males rode up alongside the man on motorcycle, CE 7015 when the pillion rider reportedly whipped out a hand gun, and was about to rob the security officer.
However, the victim reportedly retaliated and a brief scuffle ensued between him and the gunman, during which the bandit discharged a round which struck his accomplice in the right thigh.
The victim then managed to disarm the gunman, who fled into a nearby cemetery; however, his injured accomplice- who also tried to flee the scene- was subdued and later handed over to ranks of the Guyana Police Force, along with the firearm, a snub-nosed .32 revolver with one spent shell and the motorcycle.
The injured bandit was escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was treated and admitted in a stable condition, under police guard. Investigations are in progress.
Police in a statement said “courageous actions by an intended victim resulted in poetic justice being meted out to one of two bandits.”
