[www.inewsguyana.com] – A man was moments ago beaten terribly by public spirited citizens who caught him following a brazen mid-afternoon robbery on New Market Street, Georgetown on Saturday, March 29.
iNews (www.inewsguyana.com) understands that a couple was walking along New Market Street when the man who is yet to be identified approached them and took away the female’s Blackberry Curve.
He then escaped on foot. However, a man who was riding along the street and recognised what had happened gave chase behind the thief before catching up with him in the vicinity of Woodlands Hospital.
There, public spirited citizens questioned the man as to his motive for the act and when he did not provide satisfactory answers he was dealt several lashes about his body. He was tied up and made to lie on the ground until the police arrived.
During the time, he begged bitterly for his life and for the beating to stop. He told those gathered that he was going to sell the phone at the Stabroek Market.
When law enforcement ranks arrived on the scene, the beating ceased and they claimed that the man was a known thief and was convicted on similar charges before. One rank said “boy is not just the other day I warned you, yuh ain’t mean to stop.”
