[www.inewsguyana.com] – A truck driver attached to local bakery – Bakewell, was on Saturday, November 21 chopped and robbed at Palmyra, East Canje Berbice.
The victim, Andre Suhkwa, was in the process of entering his car when two armed bandits attacked him and robbed him of $80,000 cash at approximately 18:00hrs. iNews understands that the incident took place in Bakewell’s compound.
Suhkwa had returned to park the truck and the gate of the compound was partially open. As a result, bandits had easy access to the compound, passing the security guard and went straight to Suhkwa.
The man told investigators that he was about to enter his car when he was greeted by the two men, who were reportedly armed with a gun and a cutlass.
It is understood that the men demanded valuables and Sukhwa refused when he was chopped.
The man explained he used his hands as protection for his head and sustained chops on his left hand behind his wrist. The chopping also resulted in one of his fingers being partially severed.
He was taken to the New Amsterdam Public hospital for treatment. No arrest has been made but police investigations are continuing.
