A 17-year-old pedal cyclist from Babu John in the East Berbice-Corentyne Region, is now a patient at the New Amsterdam Hospital after he allegedly rode into the path of a moving vehicle on Monday afternoon.
Police say the incident occurred just about 16:30h on the Port Mourant Public Road, Corentyne.
Based on the information released, a pickup truck, being driven by a 26-year-old from East Canje, was proceeding west along the southern drive lane on the Port Mourant Public Road when the pedal cyclist rode from the northern access, straight across the public road and into the path of the vehicle.
As a result of the collision, the cyclist received several injuries about his body and was rushed to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, and further to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital; where he received treatment and is now said to be stable.
The driver of the motor pickup has passed a breathalyzer test, but remains in custody assisting with the investigation.
