Autopsy on rape accused who died in lockups inconclusive

The autopsy conducted on the prisoner who succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), after it was suspected that he was poisoned, was unable to determine his cause of death.

As such, this publication was informed that, pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh has ordered that several of his organs be sent for a toxicology analysis.

Stonie Henry, 47, a welder of Lot 539 Mocha Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD) died at the hospital after he was observed by ranks at the East La Penitence Police Station vomiting.

Henry was locked up and was expected to be charged later on the said day (Tuesday) for the rape of a 16-year-old student.

However, at around 06:15h, ranks conducting inspections saw the man doubled over and vomiting profusely.

When questioned, Henry complained of feeling unwell and as such was rushed to the hospital where he was immediately treated.

However, at around 08:00h the man succumbed.

It is being speculated that he might have ingested a poisonous substance.

Investigations are ongoing.
