Attorney, Chandra Sohan was on Monday released on his own recognisance after appearing at the Albion Magistrates’ Court to answer to a driving under the influence (DUI) charge.
Sohan of Palmyra Village, East Coast Berbice pleaded not guilty when Magistrate Renita Singh read the allegation to him.
It is alleged that on Friday last, Sohan was heading west along the southern driveway on the Williamsburg Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice, when a male unidentified pedestrian crossed the road from south to north into the path of the vehicle resulting in him being struck down.
Police reported that after issuing a breathalyser test, the 51-year-old Lawyer was found to be above the legal limit of alcohol consumption.
He is expected to return to court on September 15 2017.
