[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Private Sector Commission (PSC) of Guyana believes the manner in which the Government of Guyana reprimanded the US Ambassador, Brent Hardt recently for representing the US Foreign Policy Goals in Guyana is not consistent with the norms expected in international diplomacy and of two countries that enjoy a friendly relationship.

During the US independence celebration on Wednesday (July 02), at the home of the Ambassador, Acting Foreign Affairs Minister, Priya Manickchand unleashed Government’s wrath, describing the conduct of the Ambassador as ‘unprofessional and undiplomatic.’ She was booed and heckled by the crowd during her speech.

In recent times, Hardt has been pressuring the government, more specifically President Donald Ramotar to set a date for the long overdue local government elections. More recently, he chastised Ramotar for selectively upholding the constitution of Guyana.

The PSC in a statement today called on the Government to use all the diplomatic channels available to them in the future to register their displeasure in the conduct of any Foreign Service Officer and to resolve any differences in those Countries’ Foreign Policy Objectives being executed in Guyana.

“We believe that Guyana’s Interest should always be represented with the highest standards of Diplomacy and Compliance to International Protocols. We also call on the Foreign Service Community and their representatives in Guyana to accord the same respect towards the Government and the People of Guyana,” the PSC said.
