A 29-year-old man of Central Arakaka Village, North West District, Region One (Barima-Waini), has confessed to attempting to burn down the police outpost in the area.
Reports are at about 02:30h on Friday, a subordinate officer and other ranks were performing duties at the Arakaka Police Outpost when they heard a loud explosion and saw a huge flame at the front door of the building.
In a statement, the Guyana Police Force said that ranks escaped unharmed and immediately extinguished the blaze using water. However, upon inspection, the front door of the building was found to be scorched and a partially burnt five-gallon bottle was found at the doorway.
After realising that someone attempted to burn the building, the team of Police ranks combed the area but there were no signs of anyone in the area. Officials of the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) were called in to assist in the investigations.
Based on information received, police arrested the 29-year-old man, who during interrogation admitted to starting the fire at the outpost.
The suspect was charged in March 2013 for breaking and entering, after he broke into a dwelling house with the intent to commit a felony at Meadow, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
Meanwhile, in 2018, it was alleged that between April 29 and 30, 2018, at Rahaman’s Park, the said suspect stole a tool kit of the Stanley brand, valued $88,000.
Following the incident, he was released on $100,000 bail after denying that he stole the item.
