The Parliamentary Committee of Appointments has recommended that Matthew Edward Hugh Langevine be appointed as the Director of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), within Ministry of Finance.
Current Legal Advisor, Abiose Thomas, was recommended for the position of Deputy Director.
The Parliamentary Committee of Appointments comprises of Opposition members; Gail Teixeira, Dr Clive Jagan, Bishop Juan Edghill, Ganga Persaud and Government Members; David Patterson, Amna Ally, Annette Ferguson, Cathy Hughes and Chairperson Dr George Norton.
Dr. George Norton presented the second report on the committee in relation to the appointment of the Director and Deputy Director of the FIU.
The FIU works closely with the relevant agencies in detecting and pursuing those suspected of committing financial and other related crimes.
