As the Guyana Police Force (GPF) makes inroads to clamp down on the theft of stolen vehicles, several persons- including an ex-policeman- were arrested during the wee hours of Tuesday morning following a 10 hour operation that started on Monday which led officers to the discovery of motor vehicle parts in the vicinity of Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
Based on information received, the operation which was conducted by ranks attached to the Police “A” Division concluded at around 03:00hrs on Tuesday morning.
As a result, two motorcars along with a canter truck, which is registered to a Barr Street, Kitty, Georgetown resident, loaded with the shell of a silver Toyota Spacio and a quantity of vehicle parts, suspected to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained, were seized and lodged.
INews was informed that two of suspects are taxi drivers, three are electricians, one is a mechanic and two are labourers that are reportedly employed by the ex-policeman.
This publication was also reliably informed that another team of officers have descended on the community of Yarrowkabra, located on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway in search of other vehicles and parts suspected to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained.
A police source confirmed that they are in possession of information about the illegal trade of vehicles in the Yarrowkabra area.
The latest find comes on the heels of another intelligence led operation conducted in the vicinity of Swan on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway on Sunday last resulting in the recovery of a quantity of vehicle parts which appeared to have been abandoned on an empty lot.
INews understands that the operation was conducted between 14:00hrs and 19:40hrs on the day in question.
Ranks recovered two half cuts belonging to Toyota Allions, completely stripped, along with one crashed gold Toyota Spacio- both were without chassis and number plates.
The vehicles are currently lodged at the Brickdam Police Station as investigations continue.
No arrests have been made in this regard.
Prior to this find, on Saturday last intelligence work by the GPF led them to two locations where a quantity of vehicle parts and several vehicles suspected to have been stolen were found.
The first property located at Monument Hill, Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke/Linden Highway was descended upon by ‘A’ Division ranks who conducted a search and discovered various parts and vehicles suspected to have been stolen.
Five persons including an ex-policeman and four females were taken into custody.
The second location that officers descended upon was at Vryheid’s Lust North, East Coast Demerara (ECD) where a quantity of Allion, Premio and Spacio parts with engraved numbers were unearthed.
A couple living on the premises were arrested.
According to police, those persons who were arrested on Saturday last are still in custody assisting with investigations.
