Amarnauth Chand, 46, of Lot 81 Narine Street, Annandale, East Coast Demerara (ECD), who allegedly hacked his son to death on Wednesday evening was on Friday slapped with a murder charge.
The father, who was in tears, was taken before Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court.
The charge alleged that on September 28 at Annandale, he murdered his 24-year-old son, Mahesh Chand.
He was remanded to prison and will make his next court appearance on October 26.
On the night of the incident, the now dead man’s parents were in a heated argument to which he intervened in aid of his mother.
This reportedly angered the accused who proceeded to attack the young man with a cutlass.
The mother, Nandranie Chowtie, related to INews that her husband got home at around 23:00h and began verbally abusing her for $2000 which he had given her earlier to purchase groceries.
However, as the defendant abused his wife, the young man reportedly intervened and was dealt chops to his upper chest, abdomen and foot.
He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he succumbed.
After committing the act, the man reportedly fled the scene but was later apprehended by Police.
