[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Guyana Amazon Warriors will take on the Antigua Hawksbills in the opening game of this year’s Caribbean Premier League.
According to a release, the Grenada National Stadium will host the opening ceremony and the first match on July 11, with all six teams in action over the first weekend.
The Sunil Narine led warriors face the Samuels led Hawksbill pitting some of the finest spinners in the world against each other.
According to the Minister for Youth, Sports and Religious Affairs of Grenada, Emmalin Pierre, the country is pleased to host the opening.
“Grenada is delighted to host the opening of the 2014 Limacol Caribbean Premier League, and we’re looking forward to showing off Pure Grenada to the world. Grenadians are a sociable, welcoming and fun-loving people so it’s going to be a fantastic occasion – on and off the pitch – and we’re going to make sure the CPL feels right at home on the Spice Isle,” said the Minister.
WICB President, Whycliffe ‘Dave’ Cameron, congratulated Grenada on securing the opening of the Limacol Sponsored tournament and spoke of his excitement for all the action.
Dwayne Bravo’s Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel will take on the Barbados Tridents, captained by Kieron Pollard while the defending champions – Chris Gayle’s Jamaica Tallawahs – against the Darren Sammy marshaled St. Lucia Zouks.
