Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Roger Luncheon is calling on the 65 parliamentarians to “rise to the occasion” and to support the necessary steps that would lead to the ultimate approval of the Amaila Falls Hydro Project.
At his post cabinet media briefing this morning, Thursday July 18, Dr. Luncheon told reporters that there is not one single stakeholder who is against the project.
“The project must be continued,” Dr. Luncheon said.
He noted that without the parliamentary opposition’s vote, “the project approval mechanism will be fatally threatened.”
The Amaila Falls Hydroelectric Project has reached the stage where two critical pieces of legislation require Parliamentary approval for the advancement of the project and to obtain IDB Board approval for the IDB portion of project funding.
The legislation includes the passage of the Guarantee of Loans (Public Corporations and Companies) Act and the Hydro-Electric Power (Amendment) Bill 2013.
These two issues are set to be dealt with at today’s sitting of Parliament.
