[www.inewsguyana.com] – Thirty one – year – old Friendship resident, accused of the unlawful killing of his 25-year-old wife, was today remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine – Beharry.
Vindra Siriram was not required to plead to the capital offence which alleged that on May 9 or 10 at the couple’s home, Lot 34 Friendship, East Bank Demerara, he murdered Shelly Ann Persaud.
Police Prosecutor, Bharat Mangru told the Court that there are nine witnesses thus far in the matter. He requested three weeks for all investigations to be completed.
The accused was represented by Attorney – at – Law, Keavon Bess. He will make his second Court appearance on July 4.
Persaud was found dead on May 10, leaning over a bucket at the bottom of her step.
Siriram had told the woman’s relatives that she committed suicide. However, Commissioner of Police (ag) Seelall Persaudo n Wednesday (June, 11) confirmed that the man confessed to the killing and said his story is consistent with the results of the Post Mortem (PM) examination.
The PM showed that the woman died from suffocation due to manual strangulation.
Relatives later claimed that he was forced into signing the confession statement, adding that he is illiterate.
