[www.inewsguyana.com] – Welder Zamalodeen Khan, 43, was placed on $125,000 bail on a false pretense charge by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry during his appearance on Wednesday, April 01.
The defendant [no address given] pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on March 16 at Camp Street, Georgetown with intent to defraud he obtained from Bibi Shaw the sum of $600,000 by falsely pretending that he was in possession to sell one motor canter, knowing same to be false.
According to the prosecution, Khan is known to Shaw and on March 14 last, Shaw gave him $150,000 cash, after he told her that he is in possession to sell her the motor vehicle.
The Court heard that on March 16 at Republic Bank, Camp Street, the woman gave him an additional $600,000 for payments towards the canter, after which she asked him to view the canter; however he never did.
