[www.inewsguyana.com] – Trevor Packs of Lot 3881 North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry for the offense of trafficking narcotics.
The 37 – year-old defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on January, 17 at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), Timehri, East Bank Demerara; he had in his possession 4.090 kilogrammes of cocaine.
Police Prosecutor, Michael Grant told the Court that on the day in question, the defendant was seen by the police acting in a suspicious manner. A subsequent search was conducted and the illegal substance was found in his suitcase.
He was represented by Attorney-at-LawJames Bond, who argued for bail, stating that his client is not flight risk and has no previous convictions. The Lawyer said that he was not allowed to speak to his client before he was interrogated by the police. However, he argued that any confession given by his client is not admissible.
Bail was refused and the matter was transferred to Providence Magistrate’s Court for Tuesday, January 21.
