[www.inewsguyana.com] – Minister of Education Priya Manickchand says every school that will be built in 2014 will cater for the needs of persons with disabilities.
Manickchand made these remarks on Monday, November 25 during a sensitization session hosed by the National Commission on Disability, targeting various officers in the Ministry of Education.
In her address, Chairperson of the commission Evelyn Hamilton said no new school should be built if they do not cater for persons with disability.
Hamilton said the Central Ministry has a key role in ensuring that every region and all stakeholders are aware of the act, its provisions and what needs to be done.
In response, Minister Manickchand says schools are being built to cater for disabled persons. According to her, every school to be constructed in 2014 will cater for the needs of disabled persons.
The Minister also told the officers that they are bound by the Disability Act and must follow what is stipulated. And any officer failing in this regard will be penalized.
