[www.inewsguyana.com] – The police file on the shooting of 15 – year – old Alex Griffith by a police cadet officer is still with the Chairman of the Police Complaints Authority, Cecil Kennard.
During an interview with iNews (www.inewsguyana.com), the Chairman noted that his perusal of the Griffith file is being hampered by the Colwyn Harding case.
He explained that the two cases are somewhat similar and are considered high profile. Kennard told iNews that he will not rush through the process and the time which is required to have both cases examined thoroughly will have to be employed in an effort to deliver a fair assessment.
He is hoping to have the Griffith file completed and sent to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions by Friday, May 23.
Alex Griffith was shot to his mouth by a police cadet officer after the cop was informed by his sister that she was robbed and that one of the robbers might have been the 15 – year – old.
The cadet officer along with a party of policemen visited the home of the teenager and took him to the back of another resident’s yard in East La Penitence where he was beaten by the officers. He was then thrown in the back of a police patrol vehicle and later shot in the mouth.
The day after the shooting A Division Commander Clifton Hicken and Assistance Commissioner Balram Persaud, visited the mother of the teenager and promised a swift investigation and justice. That was 21 days ago.
