Twenty Seven – year old Ronald Kissoon of 59 James Street Albouystown Georgetown appeared before Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan charged with robbery.
Kissoon pleaded not guilty to the offence. The court was told that on March 25 at Camp Street Georgetown he stole $4.5M, property of Cecil Gajadar, who is the owner Gajadar Service Station located at Enmore, East Coast Demerara.
The accused was represented by Attorney – at – law Adrian Thompson, who made an application for reasonable bail.
However, based on the seriousness and prevalence of the offence, the prosecutor objected to bail and Kissoon was remanded to prison until September 13.
Ronald Kissoon was apprehended by police after he allegedly snatched Gajadar’s bag containing the cash in the vicinity of the Guyana Revenue Authority on Camp Street during December 2012.
Soon after, three armed men attacked the businessman and relieved him of a haversack containing approximately $4.5 million. After the robbery, the three men went their separate ways, but Gajadhar raised an alarm and caught the attention of a police inspector who was travelling in a taxi at the time.
The inspector, in responding to the alert, ran towards one of the men who had the bag in his possession but after they came into contact with each other, the man dropped the bag and ran towards the crowd in a bid to escape, but was captured. [Royan Abrams]
