[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Alliance For Change (AFC) says it will not take the fall for the non-passage of the $450 million allocation to the University of Guyana Student Loan Subvention and reiterated its support for the passage of the subvention.
At a press conference on Thursday (May 29), Party Executive, Cathy Hughes said the subvention was not approved after the PPP Government refused to delink it from allocations of NCN and GINA. However, Government refused and held its position that the entire line item be put to the vote, during which the AFC and APNU voted against.
The Party said it further made clear its willingness to support the non-contentious allocations and requested that it be brought in a Supplementary Financial Paper.
The AFC is blaming Government for the present situation where students cannot access the low interest loans but said it can be resolved now but it is up to Government.
The AFC also suggested that the University of Guyana through its Vice-Chancellor, student body, staff and lecturers press Government to return to the National Assembly immediately with a Supplementary Paper for their Subvention. [Tracey Khan – Drakes]
