Some 500 observers will be deployed by the Private Sector Commission (PSC) along with the United States of American, British and Canadian Diplomatic Missions in Georgetown to overlook the proceedings on Local Government Election (LGE) day this year.
Chairman of the PSC, Norman McLean made this announcement yesterday afternoon during a joint PSC/Diplomatic news conference where he stated that the Commission has once again applied to the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) for the observer status.
INews understands that the PSC intends to deploy its members across the various regions in the country to observe the proceedings so as to ensure that there is a free and fair election which is also ‘free of fear’.
McLean said that the elections, which are being held in Guyana after more than two decades, is of significant importance and allows for a true demonstration of local democracy.
it would be wise for Canada ambassador to refuse the invitation by GECOM to over see the LGE he has the right to do so as he not require to oversee it. let the mess that England and America deal with what they created.
