[www.inewsguyana.com] – After rigorous debates in the National Assembly last evening, the Sport Ministry’s budget for the 2014 year was passed.
Several items that did attract interest were the National Sport Commission and the number of staff that they have currently employed at the facility, as well as the reach of its programs in the hinterland and far flung regions.
Sport Minister Dr. Frank Anthony said that sport and youth representatives have been deployed in each region except region seven where a vacancy exists.
Under capital expenditures budgeted for the sector, questions were asked about the main pool to which the Minister assured is functioning.
He noted that there was an issue where ground water was seeping into the pool; however that was rectified by engineers, adding that the warm up pool is what the government is seeking money for.
Another $5 million was allocated to the Resource Center in 2014 which will see collaborative efforts between the government and the University of the West Indies for sport management courses.
