Police statistics reveal that an overall increase of 5% in serious crimes has been recorded at the end of July 2013 in comparison to the same period in 2012.
According to the police, The total number of reports of serious crimes made between January 01 and July 31, 2013 was 2316 compared to 2204 for the same period in 2012.
Some of the offences monitored are murder, robbery under arms, robbery with violence, larceny from the person, break and enter and larceny, burglary, rape and kidnapping.
A total of 72 murders were recorded at the end of July 2013 in comparison to 75 murders for the same period in 2012, a 4% decrease.
Police stated that of the 72 murders this year, 32 were of the disorderly type, 14 were committed during armed robberies, one was execution type, and nine were domestic related, while the other 16 are so far undetermined.
“At the end of July 2013 robbery under arms overall has decreased by 2%, with 585 reports compared to 599 for the same period in 2012. The statistics indicate an increase of 3% in the number of armed robberies involving the use of firearms; and a 10% decrease in armed robberies where instruments other than firearms were used by the perpetrators,” police statistics reveal.
