The Guyana Post Office Corporation (GPOC), in collaboration with the Bauxite Centennial Committee, unveiled four (4) new commemorative postage stamps on October 27, 2016, at the Three Friends Mine, Region 10. The stamps were released in observance of the Bauxite Industry’s Centennial Anniversary. Stamps will be available for circulation in $80, $140, $150 and $180 denominations at Post Offices countrywide.
Commemorative stamps are the perfect memorabilia to celebrate an anniversary or significant event. Such stamps are circulated both locally and internationally to a wide cross-section of people. Stamps also attract the interest of Philatelists who purchase, sell and store them as prized collectables.
Bauxite Mining commenced in Linden (Mackenzie) in October 1916. GPOC said it wishes to congratulate the stewards of the Guyana Bauxite Industry on the attainment of its centennial anniversary.
Moreover, members of the public who would like to obtain First Day Covers for this new issue of commemorative stamps should contact GPOC’s Philatelic Services Department at Robb Street, Georgetown, or on telephone number 225-9002 or email them at [email protected]
