A little girl lost her life yesterday afternoon after she was struck by a motorcar on the Eversham Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice.
Arianna Lowfield, 6, of Epson Village, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Port Mourant Hospital.
Reports are that at around 15:20hrs, motorcar HC 2523 was proceeding south along the eastern side of the road.
Whilst in the vicinity of Eversham Bridge, the child suddenly ran from west to east from behind a lorry that was proceeding north and came into contact with the front of the hire car.
She was knocked unconscious and by the time she was taken to the hospital, it was too late.
The driver was arrested and is presently in custody.
He was tested, however no traces of alcohol were detected.
Investigations are ongoing.
