A six-year-old child was on Sunday afternoon struck down by a motorcar along the Non Pariel Access Road, East Coast Demerara.
The motorcar, driven by a 38-year-old resident of La Bonne Intention, ECD, was proceeding east along the road when, at around 17:30hrs, in the vicinity of a shop, the driver observed the child.
According to the police, the child ran into the path of the motorcar.
“…as such the left side front of the motorcar collided with the pedestrian who fell onto the roadway, receiving injuries,” the police said in a statement.
The child, who lives at Non Pariel, was picked up in a conscious condition by public spirited citizens and was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was admitted in a stable condition.
The driver, who fled the scene, was later arrested and is currently in police custody assisting with the investigation.
A breathalyzer test was conducted on him and his blood alcohol content was .000%.
