[www.inewsguyana.com] – At the end of April 2015 the Guyana Police Force recorded a 7% increase in serious crimes in comparison to the same period in 2014.
Statistics released by the Force noted that a total of 54 murders were recorded at the end of April 2015 in comparison to 50 murders at the end of April 2014, an increase of 8%.
At the end of April 2015 robbery under arms overall has decreased by 17% in comparison to the same period in 2014. The statistics indicate a decrease of 23% in the number of armed robberies involving the use of firearms; and a 6% decrease in armed robberies where instruments other than firearms were used by the perpetrators.
At the end of April this year, a total of 29 illegal firearms have been recovered by the police comprising 14 pistols, 8 revolvers, 3 shotguns, 3 rifles and 1 pen-gun.
There has been no arrest so far in the investigations into the murder of Quincy Bowman, 31 years of Cummings Lodge, ECD, whose body was found with a gunshot injury to the head in the vicinity of Busta Bridge, Festival City, on April 06, 2015.
Investigations are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the death of Devi Ramadhar, 17 years of Pouderoyen, WBD, whose body was found on the seawall at La Jalousie, WCD, on April 11, 2015. Two men had been arrested and questioned in this matter and subsequently released.
Investigations into the murder of Shevon Gordon of Block 22, Wismar, who was shot and killed during an armed robbery in front of her residence on April 04, 2015, has resulted in three men and a woman being charged and placed before the court.
A man known as Robin Thomas, 22 years of West Front Road, Georgetown; Anthony Primo called ‘Shoulders’, of Laing Avenue, Georgetown; and Adina Bowen called ‘Yankee’ of Blueberry Hill, Wismar, have been charged with murder and robbery under arms. In addition, Adina Bowen and Latisha Garraway, 20 years, of Blueberry Hill, have been charged with unlawful possession of firearm component.
They appeared before Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrate Court on Friday May 08, 2015, where they were remanded to prison until May 12, 2015.
There has been no arrest as yet as investigations continue into an incident that occurred at Eccles, EBD, on April 25, 2015, where Attorney-at-Law Fazil Azeez was shot and wounded to his abdomen.

Investigations are continuing into the murder of Sherwin Barrow, 19 years, of East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, who was shot and killed during an argument with two men at Warlock, East Ruimveldt, on May 06, 2015. A man had been arrested and later released after questioning.
Investigations are also continuing into the murder of businessman Farouk Ghanie, 56 years of Nandy Park, EBD, whose body was found with stab wounds in his yard on April 16, 2015. A man and a woman had been arrested but were subsequently released after questioning.
There has been no arrest as yet as investigations continue into the murder of Patrick Boodie, 38 years of Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, who was shot and killed during an altercation with two men at Angoy’s Avenue on April 15, 2015.
