[www.inewsguyana.com] – Twenty – Seven – year – old Ronald Armstrong was today sentenced to 50 months imprisonment by Magistrate Judy Latchman for the offence of marijuana possession.
Armstrong of Tuschen Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo was also fined $97,016 on the charge, which stated that on May 7 at Camp Street Prison, he had in his possession 181 grammes of marijuana and 35 packs of cigarettes for the purpose of trafficking.
Armstrong has a pending carnal knowledge matter at Leonora Court and has no prior narcotics charge. The prosecution facts stated that the prisoner was an inmate at the Camp Prison and on that day he was sent to Leonora Court to face the carnal knowledge offence.
Upon his return at the Prison, the defendant was stopped at the reception department for procedural checks and was told to declare all prohibited articles, such as matches, cigarettes etc.
The Prosecutor said as a result of the search, 35 packs of cigarettes and two parcels containing the illegal substance, taped with brown scotch tape was found on his person.
