Five persons, including a five-year-old, were rushed to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital, East Coast Demerara (ECD) following an accident involving four vehicles on the Novar Public Road, Mahaicony.
Nicola Campbell, 37, of Evershore Village, Corentyne; Nandanie Singh, 20, of West Coast Berbice; Uncar Singh, five, of West Coast Berbice; Frida (only name given), 51, of Lot 61 Corentyne; and Shenise Phillips, 18, of La Parfaith Harmonie, West Bank Demerara were those injured.
The incident occurred at around 14:35h and involved a minibus, two motor cars and a minivan.
According to reports, minibus BLL 5553 was at the time being driven by Datt Narine Bisnauth, 50, of Lot 13 Airy Hall, Berbice. The minibus was said to be proceeding West along the southern side of the Novar Public Road when it stopped to put off passengers.
INews understands that the bus was in the process of moving off, when the driver disclosed to Police that he felt an impact on the ride side of his vehicle.
As a result of the impact by motorcar HB 9806, Bisnauth lost control of his vehicle, spun and collided with vehicles GPP 6485 and PRR 5620.
However, Roxanne Rose of Kilturn Village, Corentyne, who was the driver of the motorcar which allegedly struck the minibus, is giving a different account of what transpired.
According to Rose, Bisnauth made a U-turn across the road and collided with the right side front door of her vehicle which caused him to lose control of his vehicle.
Following the accident, the five injured were taken to hospital where Campbell and Phillips were treated and sent away.
The other three injured were however rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where they are now admitted as patients.
One of those seriously injured is said to have broken her hand and hip. The Police are currently investigating the matter.
