A Bourda janitor was this afternoon slapped with a four-year jail term when he appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court for the 2015 New Year’s death of an elderly man by dangerous driving.
The Magistrate, after summing up, declared that based on evidence submitted the court finds that the accused, Roger Bess’ driving fell way below that of a competent driver, and the victim’s injuries were consistent with those received from the accident, directly resulting in his death. As such, she handed down a guilty verdict.
The 36-year-old father of two stood silently while the sentencing was dispensed; being cuffed shortly and escorted out of the courtroom into the Police outpost.
Roger Bess was charged with the death of George Barker when he drove his motor vehicle in a manner dangerous to the public on January 1, 2015 at Cemetery Road, West La Penitence, Georgetown.
