[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 44 – year-old father of four has been sentenced to four years imprisonment and fined $2.5 million after he admitted to swallowing 75 cocaine pellets.
Johan Joaquin appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 where he pleaded guilty to the possession of 834 grams of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
The man resides at Lot 72 Hedley Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara and according to the Prosecution, on November 22, ranks from the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) were stationed at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) when they observed the accused, who was an outgoing passenger on a Caribbean Airlines BW526, passing through a body scanner.
They saws strange anomalies, the court heard. After being pulled aside, and told of their suspicion, Joaquin admitted to the offense. He was escorted to a City hospital where an X-ray examination was performed, displaying the suspected narcotics.
The court heard that he excreted some 75 cocaine pellets. The man claims that he works on a Poultry Farm and that the only reason why carried the drugs is as a result of frustration in his life along with the fact he is constantly bombarded by Police to pay his child support.
A lot of them in the armed forces are involved in the drug trade.
I can’t believe this , this guy was once a Presidential Guard in the previous government what’s wrong with these people .
He should have gotten 15 years what a jackass.
The Magistrates are not doing the right thing in sentencing they must give these culprits an option if you inform of the supply source 5 years imprisonment if you don’t 15 years .
All the small fish getting caught where is all this cocaine coming from.
