A 37-year-old man met a tragic end last night when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle he was driving and ended up in a canal in the vicinity of Schoonord, West Bank Demerara.
The Police, in a statement, said the incident occurred around 21:30hrs last night when Naresh Kumar, of Parfait Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, “was driving a motor car allegedly at a fast rate along the Parfait Harmonie Access Road, when he lost control of the vehicle which turned turtle in a canal”.
The Police said Kumar received injuries and was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
According to two eyewitnesses at the accident scene last night, they were travelling along the road when they noticed the car (PSS 2326) submerged in the water. The duo related how they immediately went to the assistance of Kumar who was trapped in the submerged vehicle.
They said it took them close to 15 minutes to get the victim out of the vehicle. Persons at the scene also tried to administer CPR on the man to resuscitate him, and after reportedly making a few gasps for air, he laid motionless on the roadside.
