36 months jail for Albouystown youth caught with Marijuana

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Twenty – year – old labourer, Devon Netherman was sentenced to 36 months imprisonment for possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

Netherman of Middle Street, Albouystown, Georgetown was also fined $300,000 after pleading guilty to charge before Magistrate Ann McLennan.

The Court heard that on August 9 at Bent Street, Georgetown, he had in his possession 25- grammes of marijuana.

Police Prosecutor, Dinero Jones said that on the day in question around 22:00 hrs, the Police were on patrol duty at Camp Street, when they saw the defendant ran into a yard. Ranks followed him and enquired what he was doing there.

Subsequently, he led them to the area where he left a bag and a search revealed the illegal substance.

  1. I might be wrong here but it is time The authorities and the police come to terms with marijuana use and put into law that any one found with 30 grams or less which is just over an ounce (30 grams is a little over an ounce. 28 grams exactly equals an ounce.
    30 grams = 1.05821886 ounces) be given a few days community service. any thing after that a fine and twice in a year then maybe sentence in this way we can help rather than make them worse. Hope it will be legalize soon. If you do a survey you would find about 50% of prisoners are incarcerated for ganja use. It is a waste of money and time let them help clean up the city.
