Three teenage boys who were arraigned for the rape of an 11-year-old girl were committed to stand trial in the High Court. The order was handed down by Magistrate Judy Latchman when the defendants made their second appearance in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts after being released on their pre-trial liberty by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
The teens – 18-year-old Caozuyag Menuy as well as a 15-year-old and a 14-year-old – are accused of having sexual intercourse with a girl who is under the age of consent between October 1 and October 31, 2017 while in the vicinity of Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara.
According to the prosecution’s case, the boys allegedly held down the child and molested her. The matter was reported to the Police, and the teens were arrested.
Defence Attorney Paul Fung-A-Fat, in an application for bail for the boys, asked the Magistrate to be lenient and grant bail in a reasonable amount.
Bail was granted in the sum of $70,000 for the 18-year-old while the 15-year-old and the 14-year-old were each placed on $40,000 bail.
