Three Lindeners were today, Monday, remanded for raping a British volunteer when they appeared before City Magistrate Judy Latchman after they were jointly charged with rape.
Anthony VanDembury of Wismar Housing Scheme; Seon Alexander of Blueberry Hill, Linden, along with a 16-year-old male juvenile were not required to plead to the indictable charge.
The men were refused bail and the matter was adjourned and transferred to Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan for June 7.
According to reports, the incident reportedly occurred on May 6, at Kwakwani, Linden. The young volunteer, who is in Guyana to teach children in the Leguan, Essequibo area had ventured to Kwakwani to visit other volunteers, when the incident occurred.
Reports are the young woman went to a bar with some friends where she was accosted by the men who took her into a house and raped her.
The British woman had told investigators that she had a few drinks and the men took advantage of her. The woman also noted that she saw her attackers’ faces during the incident.
