[www.inewsguyana.com] – A man was on Monday December 21, charged in the Magistrates Courts after he allegedly made false allegations of rape against a Police Constable.
28-year-old Stephan Phillips of Bath Settlement West Coast Berbice, appeared before Magistrate Annete Singh at the Georgetown Magistrates Court charged with making false allegations.
Phillips denied the charged which alleged that that on Thursday, October 22 at the Brickdam Police Station he gave to Officer Marilyn Rodney false information alleging that he had been raped by Police Constable Shawn Beharry.
Phillips was represented by Attorney at Law Darren Wade did not make any statements on the allegation but simply asked the court for his client to be granted bail.
Police Prosecutor Adduni Innis objected to bail based on the seriousness and nature of the offence; however, her objections were overruled.
The Magistrate granted bail in the sum of $10,000 and adjourned the matter until January 4, 2016.
This is very serious. When people make false allegations of such crimes, it makes genuine victims claims somewhat suspect.
