[www.inewsguyana.com] – A Labourer was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 after he appeared before her charged with robbery, resisting arrest, assaulting a peach officer and escaping police custody.
Twenty – three – year old Kerry Crumwell of Lot 130 King Edward Street, Albouystown pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on September 22 at Georgetown, while armed with a broken bottle, he robbed Eon Hilkin of a gold chain, his identification card and other personal documents and $42,000 in cash, all to a total value of $87,000.
He also denied the charge which read that on October 02 at the Ruimveldt Police Station, he resisted arrest. He was also slapped with a charge of escaping lawful custody while at the said Police Station on October 02. He denied that charge as well as one which read that on October 02 he assaulted a peace officer.
He was represented by Attorney Ronald Daniels who requested reasonable bail, stating that his client has no antecedents. Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones objected to bail based on the gravity of the charges.
He stated that the accused lives within close proximity of one of the VC’s and as such he fears that the accused may interfere with the VC. The Magistrate remanded the accused to prison and transferred the matter to Court Ten for January 12, 2016.
