[www.inewsguyana.com] – Sunil Sumra of Robb Street, Bourda, was today sentenced 56 months imprisonment on a break and enter and larceny charge by Magistrate Judy Latchman.
The 22-year-old vendor was found guilty of the offence, particulars of which noted that on November 26 at Lot 79 DaSilva Street, Newtown Kitty, he broke and entered the dwelling house of Dexter John and stole a quantity of gold jewellery, a quantity of raw gold and $65,000 cash, together valued over $6.5M.
A number of witnesses were called to testify during the trial. Sumra was represented by Attorney – at – Law, Trenton Lake and was granted $650,000 High Court bail during his trial.
In passing down her sentence, Magistrate Latchman informed Sumra that there was a clear breach of trust since he and the victim were friends. She also took into consideration the organized manner in which he entered the house and stole the items and the prevalence of the offence among others.
