… during early-morning swim in Atlantic
A 22-year-old is now dead after an early-morning swim in the Atlantic Ocean turned tragic for him and his three friends.
Dead is Andy (only name given) of De Willem on the West Coast of Demerara. Details surrounding the circumstances of the young man’s death are sketchy, but INews was reliably informed that Andy and three of his friends ventured to the De Willem Koker around 04:00h Saturday morning for an early-morning swim.
However, the young man was swept away by the waves of the Atlantic Ocean and despite several efforts by one of his friends to find him, his body never resurfaced until around 16:00h on Sunday at Zeelugt on the East Bank of Essequibo. This media house understands that the friends panicked and did not inform the dead man’s parents until after his body was recovered.
The Police have confirmed recovering the body and it is at the Ezekiel Funeral Parlour awaiting a post-mortem. Unconfirmed reports indicate that two of the three friends are in custody at the Leonora Police Station assisting with the ongoing investigations.
