[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 22-year-old miner was yesterday (January 06) remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on a series of armed robbery charges.
Andrew Ridley of Annadale, East Coast Demerara pleaded not guilty to the five charges, one of which alleged that on December 27, 2014 at West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, while being armed with a gun he robbed Collin Nelson of a Samsung Galaxy valued at $60,000 and $50,000 in cash.
It is also alleged that on the same day, also in West Ruimveldt, while being armed with a gun he robbed Tessa Waterman of one Nokia cellular phone valued $32,000 and $4000 cash.
The Court heard too that on December 22, 2014 at West Ruimveldt, while being armed with a gun, Ridley robbed Kevin Craig of a large sum of cash.
The fourth charge against the 22 – year – old detailed that on December 22, 2014 at West Ruimveldt, while being armed with a gun he robbed Curtis John of a Samsung Galaxy valued at $35,000, a $1500 wallet and $3000 cash.
It is further alleged that on December 12, 2014 at West La Penitence, Georgetown while being armed with a gun, Ridley robbed Sherwin Gilgeous of a gold chain valued at $85,000, a gold and diamond ring valued at $64,000, a Samsung Galaxy valued $77,000 and $100,000 cash.
Though no facts were read in Court, Police Prosecutor, Inspector Michael Grant asked for Ridley to be remanded. He objected to bail due to the serious nature, gravity and prevalence of the offence along with the fact that a weapon was used to carry out the crime.
Furthering his objection, Grant said that Ridley is a possible flight risk. Bail was refused and the case is set to be called again on January 26, 2015 for statements.
