A 21-year-old man was on Wednesday last found hanging from a chicken pen at Silver Hill, Linden/Soesdyke Highway. The dead man has been identified as Nigel Samuels, a labourer of Silver Hill, L/S Highway.
Based on reports received, the now dead man was employed with Wesley Smith and his brother Elvis Smith for the past two weeks but only recently started to live at the farm with his younger brother who attends school a short distance away.
However, on the day in question, the deceased had breakfast in the morning as normal after which he went to tend to the chickens. After some time elapsed, one of the owners of the farm went to check on Samuels only to find him handing from a piece of rope that was tied to the rafter in the chicken pen.
The Rural Constable in the area was immediately contacted who in turn informed the police. The body was subsequently taken down and examined by the police but there were no marks of violence.
As such, the police ruled out foul play and the body was taken to the Linden Hospital Complex. A post mortem performed by Dr. Nehaul Singh gave the cause of death as hanging. The body was handed over to the family for burial.
