[www.inewsguyana.com] – Twenty – one – year old Eddy Grant was on Wednesday, April 29 fined $30,000 by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry for damaging a car windscreen.
The court heard that the young man damaged the car after his Mother-in-law refused him entry to her home. Grant accepted that on April 26 at Festival City, Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously damaged the windscreen valued $40,000, property of Cleveland Oddle.
Police Prosecutor Shawn Gonsalves related that on the day in question around 12:00 hrs Grant visited his Mother-in-law’s house and asked if he can enter. His Mother – in – law refused after which he went around to the backyard, picked up a few bricks and threw it at the house, one of which hit the car’s windscreen.
The matter was subsequently reported to the police and Grant was arrested and charged. Grant was unrepresented and was told that failure to pay the fine will result in two weeks imprisonment.
