[www.inewsguyana.com] – Children from the Lodge community were able to hone their basketball skills over the August vacation thanks to the Pepsi Sonics basketball club.
The camp, which concluded today, Thursday August 28 at the National Gymnasium, was highly successful, according to President of the Sonics Club, Merle Casey.
““It went very well, the kids were very receptive and enthusiastic… some of them were even multitalented but this is basically Pepsi Sonics’ way of giving to the community and helping these kids to be involved in good activities during the vacation period,” Casey stated.
Since starting in 2006, the camp has grown and this year attracted a total of 43 young players who were eager to develop their skills.
Casey related a major hindrance to the development of not just these camps but sport in general.
“Businesses are reluctant to invest in these programmes for whatever reason but we must thank Bacchus Drugs Store and Automotive Essentials,” Casey stated.
According to Casey, the Pepsi Sonics will continue to be strong advocates of youth development in today’s society.
