200 hours of community service for man who threatened wife

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A mason of Lot 150 Regent Street, Georgetown, was ordered to perform 200 hours of community services by Magistrate Dylon Bess for threatening his reputed wife.

Forty-year-old Mark Singh pleaded guilty to the charge which alleged that on Monday, April 27 at Lot 150 Regent Street, he made use of threatening language to Sujata Persaud, where a breach of the peace was occasioned.

The unrepresented man accepted that he was wrong and apologized for his misdemeanour in the court.

According to the prosecution, Singh and Persaud are living together and have three children. The court heard on the day in question at around 15:00 hrs, Singh went to their home under the influence of alcohol and met Persaud frying fish.

Subsequently, he threatened Persaud and told her that he just came out of jail and “he gon do what he have to do and go back to jail”.

Singh was ordered to perform the prescribed hours of community service at the National Park; however failure to do so will result in six months imprisonment.
