[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 20 – year – old man of Middle Street, McDoom, East Bank Demerara was slapped with charges of break and enter and larceny and escaping from lawful custody.
Before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, Edgar Black pleaded not guilty to both offences on Friday, January 19.
It is alleged that on October 28, 2011 at East Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, Georgetown, Black broke and entered the dwelling house of Quincy Bavagins and stole three Play Station Games, 15 controls, four Compact Discs (CDs) and a laptop adapter, together valued $436,000.
In addition to that, he denied that on August 26, 2013 at McDoom, East Bank Demerara, pending an investigation into allegations of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking charge, he escaped from Constable Zakeer.
Police Prosecutor Michael Grant did not relate the facts to Court but successfully objected to bail citing the nature, gravity and prevalence of the offence. He said Black has a similar matter pending in the Providence Magistrates’ Court and while he was on bail he committed these offences.
Grant added that Black had been convicted before for a matter of a similar nature. The defendant had no lawyer. He said he had a matter in the Court but was never convicted.
Bail was refused and the Prosecutor was ordered to file statements. The case will be called again on February 13.
