20-Y-0 admits to stealing Parliamentarian’s cell phone

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Twenty – year – old Daniel Wilson, accused of stealing a cellular phone from a prominent Member of Parliament, made his first court appearance before City Magistrate Fabayo Azore on Tuesday, November 24.

It is alleged that on November 22, 2015 at Rosemary Lane, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he stole one Apple I-phone valued $282,000; the property of Priya Manickchand.

He pleaded guilty with an explanation. The Prosecution informed the court that on the day in question, Manickchand and her family visited the area to share food to the less fortune children in observance of her son’s Birthday.

It was noted that she left her phone in the front seat of her car and went about her duties, when the accused who was in the area at the time, went to the said car, lowered its left-side window and retrieved the cell phone.

The complainant’s father, who was in the back seat of the car at the time of the incident, witnessed everything. The man alerted the victim’s husband, who made an attempt to apprehend the accused, but failed to do so.

After a report was made to the police, the accused was arrested and charged with the offence. During his court appearance, Wilson admitted to committing the act and told the Magistrate that he is a sickly man, with pains about his body.

He apologized and promised to never steal again if given a second chance. In this regard, Magistrate Azore fined Wilson $50,000; failure to pay the fine will result in three months imprisonment.
