Two persons are confirmed dead and three others seriously injured after the vehicle in which they were traveling hit a horse, then slammed into a culvert toppling several times before coming to a halt at Number 50 Village, Corentyne, Berbice.
The accident occurred around 21:15 hrs on Sunday night.
Those confirmed dead are; the driver of the vehicle; 45-year-old Richard Ramnarine and a porter, 23-year-old Ramesh Rampat. Those seriously injured include; Mahendra Ramprakash, Prakash Gangaram, and Rameshwar Mangal.
INews was reliably informed that the occupants of the Toyota Spacio, bearing licence plate PPP 4744 had just left a liquor restaurant at Number 48 Village and were about to make a drop-off when the accident occurred.
Eyewitnesses say that the vehicle hit a horse, then slammed into a culvert, toppling several times before ending up in a nearby canal. A source told INews that the group of men were all imbibing at a liquor restaurant at Number 48 Village, Corentyne.
An investigation has been launched into the accident.
