[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 19 – year – old Mechanic of Seventh Street, Campbellville, was remanded to prison by city Magistrate Ann McLennan on a robbery with violence charge.
Rayon Finman pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on June 26, 2013 at Lot 14 North Sophia, Greater Georgetown, while in the company of others and through the use of personal violence, he robbed Derek Haley of his motorcycle, two cellular phones and a quantity of cash.
The items amounted to $277,000. The Court heard that Finman had no prior charges or convictions and Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones objected to bail citing the gravity and prevalence of the offence. Jones said too that personal violence was used during the robbery and that the 19-year-old was a flight risk.
Bail was refused and the case will be called again on February 29. Last August, one of his alleged accomplices, 19-year-old Wesley Griffith, was jailed on the said charge.
During Griffith’s trial, it was revealed that a group of young men went to Haley’s business place in North Sophia, Greater Georgetown under the guise of being customers interested in making a purchase.
The crew proceeded to severely thrash Haley before making off with his valuables. The gang escaped that day, but Griffith was later caught, charged and subsequently jailed for 60 months.
